I know that feeling of overwhelm all to well. Your chest gets tight, your breath gets shallow and your mind starts spinning with thoughts of everything that has to get done and all of the people that are counting on you to do it.

This mantra of, “I’m so behind” is exhausting. In many ways telling yourself that actually just becomes another way for you to get out of doing the things that are weighing on you in the first place. Beating yourself up like that is just a distraction.

I think deadlines are really helpful in terms of actually getting yourself to follow through on commitments but life happens and deadlines can be changed if need be. So, if you’re in the middle of 4 exhausting days and nights of sleep training your baby maybe, just maybe, you don’t need to simultaneously prepare all of your receipts for your taxes just because this was the week you decided it needed to get done.

Look, unless your house is on fire or one of your loved ones is about to be eaten by a shark most of the things you’ve deemed as URGENT, simply aren’t. So, next time you start walking in literal or metaphorical circles freaking out about having no time to get everything done immediately just focus on the single next step you’re going to take and remind yourself that everything else on your To-Do List can wait until tomorrow.
